What a way to start a tale. Ashley Sullivan, daughter of the foreman Ken Sullivan, had been Jake Crenshaw's shadow all of her short life.
His parents, Joe and Gail Crenshaw love to have a barbaque party for any good occasion. They threw a party for Ashley's sixteenth birthday. She wanted Jake, a young man of 24 years, to notice her as a woman? She's gotta be kidding.

She wanted a birthday kiss and got a bit enthuseastic and Jake's body really embarressed him. How could he feel this way about a kid?
Then followed an nine year separation. Jake took over running the large ranch and Crenshaw holdings. And Ashley went to college and became a veterinarian.

Now we find 33 year old Jake playing poker when his cousin Jordan came looking for him. Jordan Crenshaw runs a horse breeding operation on the Crenshaw ranch until he can get his barn built.
Oh boy, Jordan interrupts Jake's game to tell him that his ex-wife, Tiffany has shown up at the ranch.

For Jake and his brothers, Jared, Jude and Jason being gorgeous blue eyed blonds the covers don't depict it.

Anyway, Tiffany finally gets around to informing Jake that he is a father of a little three year old daughter, Heather. She is a little doll.
Tiffany found out that she was pregnant after the divorce.

Jake needs help, he doesn't know what to do with a little girl. So he calls on his one-time friend Ashley for help.
Oops! she finds the attraction still there at 25. She had thought that she had put the attraction behind her. [finally someone who hasn't slept around].

She falls for Heather, and finds she is still in love with Jake - and the misunderstandings just keep coming.

You will love the Crenshaw family, their relationships to one another, and Ashley finally learning to understand Jake.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -- M - great family tale.

Little shadow has grown up

Here's the story. Ashley sullivan tagged after her 'hero' Jake Crenshaw for yrs. Years later Jake got married (to another woman of course), divorced & became a 'surprised' overnight daddy! Asked Ashley for help with his daughter and one look at Ashley realised that his little shadow has finally grown up. I don't understand why he rejected her at the first place (reasons given not good enough/believable in my opinion) but I loved reading the book anyway. It's enjoyable & worth the money spent (as good as the 2nd book, Caught In The Crossfire).

Destiny Aurora is a MUST READ book !

I can't say enough about this book Destiny Aurora. I picked up the book under a week ago. I could not put it down, literally. From the moment I read the first page I was hooked. I immediately associated with the characters and felt drawn to their strengths and sympathized with their weaknesses. I am a HUGE Sci-Fi fan loving all the greats. Destiny Aurora holds its own among that universe. Destiny Aurora was just the right balance of suspense, intrigue, action and drama while still being intellectually stimulating. A bonus was that I was able to read it to my daughter, who is 12! She loved the strong female characures and awesome story as well! I highly recommend this book !!

This is the first SCI-FI I have read in a while and I'm glad I did. Mr. Zanca's story and characters are well rounded and he has a few surprises in store which manage to kick up the suspense. I have to congratulate Mr. Zanca on his ability to keep several character lines running and still tell a good story without getting bogged down in minutia. I hope there is a second book. I believe there could be a franchise here.

I keep waiting without knowing/ what I'm waiting for, Harrison says in Age Sixty-Nine; in that waiting, he adds, on local earth my heart/ is at rest as a groundling. In low-pressure free verse, and in the prose poems that make up half the volume, Western American landscapes and beasts soar and roam off the page. (Mexican places and people, unfortunately, do not: they are leaden stereotypes.) People, for Harrison, are beasts as well, marine organisms at the bottom of the ocean/ of air. Paying homage to instinct, loyalty, memory and a companionable ferocity, Harrison finds his best subjects, often enough, in dogs. I know dog language fairly well, he explains, but then dogs hold a little back from us because we don't know their secret names given them by the dog gods. Barking brings the poet closer to the canine kingdom still: I was a dog on a short chain, he complains, and now there's no chain. (Apr.)

About the Author
Jim Harrison is the author of thirty books, including Legends of the Fall, Dalva, and Shape of the Journey. His work has been translated into two dozen languages and produced as four feature-length films. In 2007, Mr. Harrison was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He divides his time between Montana and southern Arizona.

A Quintessential American Poet

The late Harrison is, as always, the quintessential American poet. The simplicity of Hemingway dances with the roughness of Raymond Carver and the childlike wonder of Mary Oliver. Jim Harrison was a true master and has become one of my most evident inspirations and favorite writers.

The Natural World

Jim Harrison conveys a love and deep appreciation of nature. His novellas, novels, memoirs and poems all are steeped in his life-long passion for being outside. His "thicket" paradise-- alone basking in the wonder an un-named creek somewhere in N.America--gives him the inspiration to write like no one else.
If you love this realm of pure nature, and our place in it, you will love his books.

In Search of Small Gods

Jim Harrison is one of our most versatile writers and this book of poems is no exception. His prose poems range from the hysterically funny -- like his impersonating a famous physiologist to gain access to the world's fastest female runner -- to the stream-of-consciousness style of "Advice." Those small gods of daily life are exposed again and again in this book. Harrison has done the searching for us.

About the Author
Linda Schneider is Professor of Sociology at SUNY-Nassau Community College. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology from Columbia University. Dr. Schneider has published in the ASA journal, Teaching Sociology, contributed to panel discussions at the Eastern Sociological Society, the Community College Humanities Association, the Community College General Education Association, and the American Association of Community Colleges. She has directed several grants from the NEH, the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, and the National Science Foundation for multidisciplinary and global curriculum development.

Arnold Silverman is Professor of Sociology at SUNY-Nassau Community College. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The author of numerous articles, Dr. Silverman's work has appeared in the American Sociological Review, Built Environment, Contemporary Sociology, and Social Service Review. He is also the author of Chosen Children, a longitudinal study of American adopting families. He has also been active in efforts to improve the quality of undergraduate education. He co-directed a faculty development effort, financed by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, to encourage active learning in undergraduate teaching. He has been the chair of the Eastern Sociological Society's Committee on Community Colleges and is currently the coordinator of the Freshman Learning Community Program at Nassau Community College.

I bought this book for a Sociology class that I was taking in College. The book arrived on time and was as described by the seller. I ended up making an A+ in the class, so I guess the book did it's job.

I can't believe I used to drink Diet Coke, count calories and eat fat-free processed crap (AKA kryptonite). Yet I was a good 20 pounds heavier, was always exhausted, had migraines and acne all the time, and in general felt like crap. Hard to believe! Of course docs prescribed meds for acne, migraines and depression, etc. When all I really needed was to chill out and JERF (just eat real food)! I wonder if I had treated myself with more self-care in my 20's would I have even gotten Hashimoto's thyroiditis? What would have happened if when I was diagnosed with Lyme, I had rested, taken probiotics and eat an anti-inflammatory super food diet instead of pushing through and trying to survive on caffeine and sugar during 6 months of antibiotics?! If I had only known then what I know now. Life is so much easier when you listen to your body, practice self-care and just chill out. This is why I wrote my book. To share what I learned on my healing journey. A warrior knows he can't protect or help anyone else unless he protects himself first. Ultimately my story is about self-care, balance and resilience. It's the delicate balance between willpower and chillpower (doing hard things vs doing easy things) to Find Our Flexible Warrior!

About the Author
Karen Dubs is a registered yoga teacher, a certified Pilates and Spinning instructor, a personal stretcher and a health coach specializing in flexibility, balance and recovery. She produced the Flexible Warrior Athletic Yoga DVD series with Spinervals and has taught yoga and stretching multiple seasons for The Baltimore Ravens football team and the University of Maryland Terrapins men’s basketball team, in addition to private and group sessions for runners, triathletes, golfers, lacrosse and soccer players. Karen helped Olympic Pentathlete Suzanne Stettinius stay recovered and flexible while training for five sports leading up to the 2012 London Olympic games. Karen enjoys teaching fundraiser yoga classes for her favorite charity organizations, Believe Big, Knights of Heroes and Back On My Feet. She also loves teaching Flexibility for Warriors sessions at Charm City Run in Baltimore and doing private recovery, stretch and mash sessions with athletes of all levels and sports. Karen lives near Baltimore, Maryland with her husband, Jon, and their rescue pup Stella.

Karen offers smartly updated and highly effective solutions to our toughest obstacles. Not only in getting into shape physically, but mentally, spiritually and emotionally as well. As a combat Marine and yoga teacher, Flexible Warrior's content and specific methods can and will take us to the next level in each. Highly, highly recommended.

Listen to your body

Take care of yourself first! This information packed book reminds us that self care is crucial and must come first in this fast paced, over packed life. Self care can come in many shapes and sizes. The balance she refers to is more than mere physical balance; it is the physiological and emotional balance needed for overall health. Karen helps us all remember to slow down, eat real food, round out our exercise program and listen to our bodies. It's wholesome, nurturing advice. As a mom of 3 and a full time organic farmer I need all the reminders I can get to nurture myself and stay flexible, both physically and mentally.

Willpower and Chillpower--a perfect combination!

Willpower and Chillpower! This is the definition of Karen's "Flexible Warrior," which is a concept addressing flexibility of the body, mind, and spirit in ultimate balance. The author discusses how we can find our own personal strength and purpose, while also balancing it with the opposite quality of letting go of what is beyond our control. This is the practice of resiliency/flexibility. By reading this motivational book, the reader will come away with an exciting model for being the best one can be and living one's life authentically. Various self-care approaches are highlighted, as well as the best ways to bring strength, flexibility, and peace into your own life, despite the most difficult of circumstances that may exist. The author introduces a multitude of possibilities, from scientific yet simple dietary recommendations to yoga "off the mat," but continuously encourages keeping it balanced and stress-free. Through this contemporary approach towards our own self-development coupled with excellent self-care, the author shares how we can become aligned with our highest values and guided towards our ultimate purpose! Well-written and highly recommended for anyone searching to gain a greater sense of power, self-awareness, balance, and self-actualization in one's life. You will be inspired!
