Just say no

I bought this book because it was the required text for my biochemistry class.

It's terrible. Almost every lecture, my professor tells us there's something wrong with one or more chemical structures in the diagrams. In terms of the text, it's okay, although condensed and assumes that you've either gotten the info somewhere else, or will. At least we haven't run into errors there.

Wait for another edition (if possible), or just get some other book.

Es de las mejores novelas que he leído, el desarrollo de dos mundos, las historias separadas pero al mismo tiempo unidas, la soledad. Aparte de la estructura del libro que hace que no puedas dejar de leerlo. Sin temor a equivocarme creo que es la mejor novela de Murakami, sus obsesiones llevadas al extremo.

Mucho material de sobra....

Sin ser un gran fan de Murakami, me parece que nunca habia hecho algún mal trabajo con sus historias, siempre llenas de un estilo narrativo ágil, imaginativo, en ocasiones lleno de surrealismos, con personajes muy bien elaborados. Hasta hoy. Me parece que en el intento de crear una obra magna más bien nos entrega un bulto de libro, demasiado largo y con demasiado material de sobra. No es que esté en contra de las novelas extensas, pero hacer un ejercicio de narrar una historia coherente, cautivante, que mantenga un ritmo y una ruta clara, no es tan fácil. El inicio de la historia es Murakami al 100, pero muy pronto, hacia la mitad del libro o antes incluso, se vuelve la historia floja y sosa. En los dos primeros libros, consigue mantener al lector atrapado a pesar de sus defectos, cosa muy diferente con el tercer libro que francamente esta de sobra, algunas de las líneas de historia francamente están muy sobradas e insípidas (como la historia de Ushikawa, personaje del que bien podría prescindirse, pero consume un tercio del tercer libro), muchos cabos sueltos, muchas tramas sin ruta alguna. De los tres libros bien se pudo haber editado la obra para caber en dos volúmenes sin problema alguno, incluso se le podría recortar mucha más paja. Evitarlo.

Es el primer libro que leo de este autor y ha sido un agradable descubrimiento.
Sus protagonistas son una fuente inagotable de sorpresas. Uno se queda con las ganas de saber mas sobre ellos.
El unico 'pero' que le pongo al libro es que a veces da la sensacion de que exagera con las descripciones y que hay un poco de paja que se podia haber evitado.

Elhanan Yakira is Schulman Professor of Philosophy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He has previously taught at the Sorbonne, École Normale Supérieure in Paris, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Pennsylvania State University and Indiana University. Yakira's previous publications include Nécessité, Contrainte et Choix: la métaphysique de la liberté chez Spinoza et Leibniz (1989), winner of the 1990 Charles Lambert Prize from Académie des Sciences Morales et Politiques, Institut de France; La causalité de Galilée ... About the Author
Kathleen P. Munley, PhD, is a local historian and longtime professor of history at Marywood University, Scranton, Pennsylvania, where she teaches a variety of courses on American history and served on many elected and appointed academic committees. She developed and directed a legal studies program at the university that included an American Bar Association–approved legal assistant major. A lifelong resident of the region, Munley has been associated with many local community organizations and volunteer activities.

Paul R. Mazzoni, JD, has been a practicing attorney in Lackawanna County for over fifty-two years and served the county as its district attorney for two terms, from 1970 to 1978. As district attorney, Mazzoni was the chief prosecutor in the Commonwealth v. William J. Wright. Mazzoni continues to practice law with the firm Mazzoni, Karam, Petorak, and Valvano in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Mazzoni is a longstanding member and former president of the Lackawanna Bar Association and a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Active in community life in the region, Mazzoni was appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to serve as director of the Census for the Tenth Congressional District.

I really enjoyed the book

I really enjoyed the book. The authors were factual and gave a vivid heartfelt viewpoint on the way the murders affected the community. I wish Dr. Munley had an opportunity to interview my dad (Paul Farrell, District Supervisor for the Board of Probation and Parole). I think he would have shed more light on the reasons for Wright's release from Farview and just who supported that decision.
